Top tips for making it as a massage therapist
Working as a massage therapist can be an exciting and rewarding job, but it can also have its challenges. Making sure you are successful takes more than just your qualifications.
First and foremost you must be able to communicate with your clients. Find out about them as a person. What do they do in their professional and personal lives? How does this affect their aches, pains and their massaging needs? Knowing this information can help you when you putting together a treatment plan.
Be happy. It may sound obvious but you would be surprised how many people receive treatment from someone who has a negative attitude – or even just a really bad day! Your clients do not want to hear your problems while they are escaping from their own.
Are you promoting yourself as much as you could? An ad in the local newspaper or a price list in the window just won’t cut it any more. To make sure people know who and where you are you need to execute a good social media campaign. Look at the age range of your customers – which platform do you think they would use more? Facebook and Instagram are more successful for beauty based businesses so start creating that profile, add your images and price lists and most importantly, get those reviews!
If you do decide to go down the social media route it is important to remember that consistency is vital to your growth so post often and always respond to your comments – good AND bad!
Finally, be open to expanding your skillset. If you specialise in hot stone massage why not start offering warm bamboo massage too? We work with several trainers who can help you grow your offerings.
